Healing Is A Choice by Stephen Arterburn

Healing is a choice by Stephen Arterburn makes the claim to transform your life if you follow ten steps.  There is a workbook section at the end of every chapter.  The author is clear that it is a choice, then he said we cannot do it alone.  He covers many areas in the book such as loss, sexual sins, and especially divorce, which he draws from his own life.  The ten steps are questions to ask yourself and then he gives the thing that will stop you from healing.  The author shares a lot of his experiences through his own divorce.

The author fails to connect healing to the truth of God's word.  He relies to much on professional help and to little on what you can do for yourself.  Maybe he can pay all the fees for therapy but I can't.  He also said you need a support group but does not tell you how to find that support group.  I have never known a depressed person that had too many friends.   The workbook at the end of each chapter leaves much to be desired.  I don't like think of a time questions and there were a lot of them.

Enemies of the Heart by Andy Stanley

Andy Stanley has done a great job with his book Enemies of the Heart.  I was not familiar with the author and decided to get this book because of the title.  Let me tell you, I was not disappointed.   The author covered four emotions-Guilt, Anger, Greed and Jealousy.   These emotions were covered completely and truthfully.  He wasn't trying to gain popularity he just wrote the truth in terms anyone could understand. He handles the material completely and biblically.
I think that this book is well written, gets right to the problem, and gives you a solution.  Stanley's book made me think and examine my own heart and convicted me in areas where I have fallen short.  I highly recommend this book.

Take a look at the first chapter of this book and see first hand the great material for yourself.

Untamed by Lisa Harper

I was interested in this book because of the title, but was disappointed in the book.  I found it to be offensive in so many ways.  First by the lack of content of biblical teaching.  Second by the lack of reverence for God's Holy Word and the men who penned it.  Third by the labels put on people by the author.  Like, I bake casseroles therefore I must be a legalist.  I thought the language was like someone trying to fit in with the younger crowd and I didn't like her careless use of names in scripture like Johnny B.

When God Created My Toes by Dandi Daley Mackall

This is a nice book, but it is lacking in some areas.  The art work does not work for a childrens book.  The pictures do not match the story line.  Also the story does not flow and is lacking. For instance, "did he put bones in 'em?  Did he know I'd skin 'em? Did we sing our ABCs when God created my knees?"  Or "Did we hide in cloudy skies when God created my eyes?"  I was excited about the title but I was disapointed when I read the story.  I would not recommend this book.
